About

I’m Shane S, I Help Motor Carriers Build Their Dreams.
Welcome to the journey!

My introduction and journey in transportation and logistics started when I joined the Military in 1992. Serving from 1992-2000 in the Army as a Heavy Construction Equipment Operator, and again in 2002-2005 as an Avionics Technician for the U.S. Air Force Reserves.

The military is a organization who’s fate can be decided solely by logistics. You can place the bravest of citizens in the most strategic location, yet without logistics, victory can not be theirs. This fact was acknowledged by many great leaders from Sun Tzu, Alexander the Great and Dwight Eisenhower.

“Forget logistics, you lose.” Lt. Gen. Fredrick Franks.

“You will not find it difficult to prove that battles, campaigns, and even wars have been won or lost primarily because of logistics.” General Dwight D. Eisenhower

The Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines logistics as “the aspect of military science dealing with the procurement, maintenance, and transportation of military materiel, facilities, and personnel.”2

The Military is a logistics powerhouse that can move thousands of tons of supplies, equipment and people around the world in hours! With four overseas deployments and several major training exercises, I was able to participate in many aspects of this feat. From loading ships and aircraft to ground movements and planning.

After leaving Active Duty, I went over the road as a long-haul truck driver, continuing my journey in logistics.
In 2005 an opportunity to further assist the military in this logistical feat presented itself in Iraq. One of the largest and longest sustainment and logistic operations in history. From driving in convoys as a driver, to coordinating and planning convoy personnel, freight loading, and unloading as a Transportation Forman, the learning opportunities were endless.

Returning to the U.S. in 2012, the Oil & Gas fracking boom was in full swing. First in North Dakota as a driver ending in South Texas as Truck Supervisor overseeing a tanker fleet until the market decline in 2015.

In 2016, the decision was made to attend freight broker training. The training was enlightening in the fact that over the previous 24 years I had amassed a fair amount of knowledge and understanding of ground logistics and planning. Stranger still, it was something I enjoyed doing. In 24 years I had been a driver of Dry Vans, Flatbed, Lowboys and Tankers. Overseen the daily operations for up to 100 drivers and interacted directly with clients on several operational levels.

In 2016 Paid Miles started operations, the next logical step on this journey. This has by far been the most rewarding and demanding part of this adventure. To gain the trust and respect of  carriers in an ever changing market environment has and continues to be the greatest challenge!

Just as logistics can define the military battle, It can also define your business. In todays JIT  manufacturing, great freight and logistics planning  can be the difference. Finished product need to move off the production floor and to customer’s, seamlessly. Our mission at Paid Miles is to assist you with quality, vetted shippers and brokers to meet your needs, helping you win the logistics battle.

As you are reading, this means you are considering a relationship with Paid Miles I welcome you to my journey and pledge to remain true to the values I lived by in the military and in life. With 28 years plus of transportation and logistics experience, Paid Miles is able to assist you in meeting your transportation goals.

“Have you ever noticed that anyone driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone driving faster than you is a maniac?”

-George Carlin

“My logisticians are a humorless lot. They know they are the first ones I will slay if my campaign fails.”

-Alexander the Great
